Happy September! (and a giveaway!)
Bounding up to your inbox with great excitement and book recommendations
Hello lovely people!
I hope you all had a splendiferous summer! I spent far too much time wrestling with newsletter quandaries (here’s a reminder that Substack newsletters are for ages 16+ — so, for instance, I will be recommending lots of books and TV for adults!). But I also finished writing the first draft of a book, which I am very excited to tell everyone about once it is a bit less first-drafty! 😊
I also posted on my blog again (after abandoning it for four years!):
Book Recommendations and Helpful Dogs
And since you were all lovely enough to sign up for this newsletter, I wanted to make sure you didn’t miss the giveaway I posted over there!
(Please note these forms have to be filled out by someone 18 or older! No kids’ email addresses, please!)
For parents & guardians: Tell me five books your young reader has read this year by filling out this form by September 15:
Wings of Fire Book and Plush Giveaway
And then in late September we’ll randomly select three of you to receive:
a signed copy of the new limited edition of Wings of Fire book one and
a complete set of the eight Wings of Fire plush danglers*
* Since these come in mystery boxes and there’s no way to tell what’s inside, I’m going to have to open them ahead of time in order to make sure you get one of each – I hope that’s OK!
For teachers and school librarians: Same question – tell me some books you’ve read and loved recently (for any age; I read everything!) in this form by September 15:
Wings of Fire Set of Books Giveaway
And we’ll draw three winners to receive a complete set of the Wings of Fire novels for your classroom or school library. Yay!
I also wanted to let you guys know before I post it anywhere else that I’m scheduled to be at New York Comic Con this year—it’s October 17-20 but the current plan is I’ll be there that Thursday and Friday!
More events will be posted soon on my Events page — I’ll be roaming around when the limited edition of book one comes out (October 1!) and we’re just finalizing the plans. 😊
OK, enough about me! Have you guys watched My Lady Jane yet? My new favorite TV show? It’s amazing, which makes sense because the book it’s based on is also amazing.
The authors basically seized the history of poor doomed Lady Jane Grey (the nine day queen) and were like “ahaha, not on our watch” and made a MUCH BETTER, much much funnier version of her story. WITH SHAPESHIFTERS! It’s so funny and original and delightful and perfectly cast — if you are looking for something to cheer you up, I highly recommend reading the book, then watching the show (it’s on Amazon Prime), then telling everyone about it, and then reading the other books by this trio of fabulous authors (My Plain Jane retells Jane Eyre and is ALSO delightful!).
August was also a bonanza of authors I love having new books out, including:
Kingdom of Dust, by Lisa Stringfellow (author of the wonderful A Comb of Wishes)
A Sorceress Comes to Call, by T. Kingfisher (I’m in the middle of her book Paladin’s Faith now and adore it)
Long Live Evil, by Sarah Rees Brennan (I loved In Other Lands so much and am so wildly excited to read this one!)
I mean, my goodness, how am I supposed to get anything written when I just want to be reading all the time?! 😊 Speaking of which, I should get back to revising — but first, I also wanted to remind everyone to register to vote and check your voter registration status (even if you’ve voted recently, it’s worth double-checking!). You can do both quickly and easily here!:
I hope you had a wonderful summer, that back to school is going well for all you parents and teachers, and that you have lots of awesome books to read!
Hugs and dragons,
Tui 😊
